Los Angeles, Calif. – September 23, 2013 – tokidoki, the global pop culture brand, is thrilled to introduce its newest character to the tokidoki family. Collaborating with The Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice, Italy; ‘Cappuccino’ is a limited edition vinyl sculpture.
Cappuccino was launched at an exclusive event September 12 held at Peggy Guggenheim’s former home, Pallazzo Venier dei Leoni, on the Grand Canal in Venice, now the museum which houses Ms. Guggenheim’s personal collection. Cappuccino is a Lhasa Apso puppy representing Ms. Guggenheim’s favorite breed of dog. He is vinyl, 12” with adjustable legs and tail, and evokes the essence of the Peggy Guggenheim Collection and the city of Venice. Cappuccino is represented on a pedestal floating in “water,” with an adornment in the form of the head of a lion which references the architectural decoration of Palazzo Venier dei Leoni. His outstretched arms recall those of Marino Marini’s Angel of the City (a work of art located on the museum’s terrace facing the Grand Canal). In addition, printed on his tee-shirt is an image of the butterfly sunglasses designed for (and made famous by) Peggy Guggenheim by the artist Edward Melcarth.
Simone Legno, designer and creative director of Tokidoki, states “I am honored to have collaborated with the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, a highly prestigious institution on the international stage of modern and contemporary art.” To celebrate this historic collaboration, Legno has produced a colourful video-animation directed by Loris Lai. Cappuccino will be on sale in the museum shops, in the tokidoki flagship store in Los Angeles, online at tokidoki.it, and in a limited number of selected retailers world-wide. An original t-shirt inspired by the new toy has been designed specifically for the occasion. MSRP for the toy is $150.00 and the tee-shirt is $28.00; both available now.
