A few weeks ago a few MegaBloks sets were sent to the AwesomeToyBlog HQ for me to review, and since it is a holiday here in the U.S., I thought today would be a perfect day to check one of them out. Today’s selection is the UNSC Night Ops Gausshog from their Halo line. This set features the vehicle, complete with its 360° rotating Gauss Canon, working suspension, lights and sounds and 3 articulated Halo minifigures.
The set, with 239 pieces, took just about an hour to assemble. The directions were clear, making the build pretty frustration free. Assembled, the vehicles looks great – and I didn’t even put the stickers on! One of the things that I really like about Mega Bloks are the pieces that are two colors swirled together, these pieces give an assembled kit some great variations in color. They really keep a set from looking flat and add some realism to the build. The swirls of black in the browns give the vehicle the look of being a bit battle worn, or at least dirty. Both of which are appropriate! Another highlight of any Mega Bloks set are the minifigures – and while Halo minifigs are not new, they continue to impress. Each soldier sports 12 points of articulation, a great scupt, a great deco and a huge gun.
The Halo UNSC Night Ops Gausshog is available now at stores everywhere. If you’re a fan of construction toys and a fan of the Halo series, this is something you should look into. The set looks great assembled, and you’ll find yourself futzing with the figures.
