Lovers of all things Halloween, local Peoria artists Daniel and Dawna Davis of Steam Crow developed a special Halloween convention in 2012: Keen Halloween. Designed for Halloween lovers of all ages to be a bridge between gory and spooky, Keen Halloween was created to celebrate what so many love about this special holiday.
The two-day convention ran in 2012 and 2013 and featured workshops including the Sugar Calaveras Demo, Sugar Skull Makeup 101, Make a Mad Scientist Jars of Doom Demo, and Zombies Makeup How-to. Attendees could participate in events like Top 5 Haunted Locations in Arizona, “Thriller” Dance Class, and the Iron Skull Costume Challenge. Those that enjoy making costumes for Halloween could get their burning questions answered at the walk-up Evil Genius Costume Bar where costuming experts offer advice, share trade tricks and help bring spooky ideas to fruition. Attendees commemorated their experience with a photo at the Scarecrow King Photo Booth.
Now, in 2016, Daniel and Dawna Davis have partnered with Phoenix Comicon Convention Director, Matt Solberg to relaunch Keen Halloween at the Phoenix Convention Center on September 24 – 25, 2016.
“This partnership creates the opportunity to grow Keen Halloween in fun and creative ways,” says Marketing Director Jillian Squires “Having a team with experience learned through Phoenix Comicon’s growth and the excitement we all feel, will shape a unique event that anyone who enjoys Halloween will want to attend.”
