Right before my holiday break, I was greeted by a big box of Westland Giftware products from Entertainment Earth. If you’re not familiar with Westland Giftware, they offer a huge range of household products such as cookie jars, barware, snow globes and more all decked out in some of your favorite properties including Marvel comics, DC Comics, Star Trek, and Peanuts to name just a few. Today I’ve opened up the Wolverine Night Light which is available on Entertainment Earth for $18.99.
Thoughts: The Wolverine Night Light comes packaged in a Marvel Comics Westland Giftware box, which is covered in a collage of classic comic panel line art with one side featuring the Marvel logo in full color along with vintage art of some of Marvel’s finest heroes – Wolverine, Iron Man, Hulk, Spider-Man, Thor and Captain America. I love that ‘classic’ Marvel art was used on the packaging! Inside the box the night light is safely packaged in a bag in a huge block of foam.
Now that Wolverine is free of his packaging, let’s take a look at the night light. This night light is essentially two units – one a small candle light bulb in a switched wall socket (the light part of a night light) and a Wolverine ‘bust’ that clips on to the light unit. Thanks to the clip used for attaching Wolverine to the lamp, you can display this without the night light – it simply leans back a bit like a picture frame. The bust part of the light is just over four and a half inches tall and has Wolverine from the waist up atop the X-Men logo. Wolverine is wearing his classic yellow / black uniform complete with blue shoulder pads. He’s posed with his claws out, ready to slash his enemies to shreds. The sculpt is true to the ‘vintage’ art style on the box artwork – in fact I think he’s got the same grimace right off the box. I’m far from an expert on sculpted night lights, but this is a pretty solid Wolverine.
When clipped on the light and plugged in, the X-Men logo part glows nicely. The Wolverine part of the light is opaque, which blocks much of the light…you know, like a night light. The included bulb is a 7W bulb. If you prefer less light from your night light there are 4W bulbs available, but you’d have to swap that out yourself. As mentioned earlier – the lamp does have a switch built in, making it easy to turn Wolverine on and off.
Summary: I don’t know a lot about night lights, but the Westland Giftware Wolverine Night Light is pretty cool. I like that it can work as a display piece without the light – so if you buy this for a child who out grows it, they can still have a Wolverine bust for their room. Priced under $20, this night light is perfect for the little Marvel comics fan in your life. And really, who better to fight off the monsters in the dark better than Wolverine. You can find him and other Westland Giftware at Entertainment Earth.
