Thanks to Warner Bros. Home Video, I had the opportunity to screen the latest Scooby-Doo animated movie, Scooby-Doo! Mask of the Blue Falcon. This latest adventure puts the Scooby gang at the San DePedro Mega Mondo Pop Comic ConApalooza; Scooby and Shaggy are there to celebrity their all time favorite superhero Blue Falcon and Dynomutt; Fred can’t wait to learn that latest on the gritty Blue Falcon revival coming from Hollywood; Daphne can’t collect enough ‘Littlest Fuzzies’ and Velma just doesn’t get any of it. During the big debut of the new Hollywood Blue Falcon, Mr. Hyde (Blue Falcon’s TV nemesis) attacks, setting the stage for a mystery, adventure, and a Scooby-Doo of a good time.
As an annual attendee of SDCC, I couldn’t help but to love this latest Scooby-Doo movie. The story itself is entertaining and well told, but setting the movie at a Comic-con provided an opportunity for a ton of Hanna-Barbera cameos which thrilled me to no end. Via Con cosplayers Space Ghost, Speed Buggy, Fred Flinstone and many, many other classic characters pop-up in this movie. The Scooby gang even get in on the cosplay fun, Shaggy and Scooby evoke their lifelong heroes Blue Falcon and Dynomutt while the rest of the gang gets forced into dressing up as The Herculoids (Zandor, Tara and Igoo). Perhaps for readers of this site, the movie was made when Velma, suckered into helping Daphne get all here ‘Littlest Fuzzies’ comments that she didn’t know that collecting toys was such hard work. Truer words have never been spoken in an animated movie.
Scooby-Doo! Mask of the Blue Falcon is now my favorite of the Scooby-Doo movies (“Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island” previously held the title), you’ll love it if you’re a fan of the crime solving dog and you’ll love it more if you’re a con-goer! The movie is released on Blu-Ray / DVD on February 26th. Thanks to Warner Bros. Home Video for providing a review copy.
