LOS ANGELES, CA — September 28, 2012 — Quantum Mechanix Inc. (QMx) is pleased to announce that it has secured the rights from CBS Consumer Products to produce collectibles for all Star Trek movie and TV properties.
Among the QMx collectible items will be:
- Ship replicas – both studio-scale and mid-scale limited-edition ship replicas.
- Animation-style maquettes.
- Novelty items – including jewelry, key chains, stickers and more.
- Prop replicas and set props.
- Lithographs
- Plushes
Already in the works is the Artisan Edition Studio-Scale U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-D, a 38-inch long, film-quality replica with working lights and a screen-accurate paint job. Like all QMx Artisan replicas, the Enterprise will be 100% made-to-order in the U.S.A. with the finest detailing and greatest precision.
QMx has pioneered the U.S.-based development and manufacture of licensed, made-to-order ship replicas. Each Artisan ship is assembled, wired and painted by hand in a working model-effects shop. This process, while more resource intensive and more time consuming than overseas manufacture, ensures discerning collectors get a replica of unsurpassed quality.
QMx’s plans for Star Trek go well beyond high-end filming miniatures. The company also has a replica of the Star Trek: The Next Generationcommunicator badge in development that offers fans a unique way of fastening the prop to their clothing – using a magnetic clasp.
The company will also be releasing the next in its hot replica key chain line – the Enterprise D. Cast in metal with a pewter finish, the Enterprise D key chain is based on the same digital effects files used to create the big replica.
Taking a cue from QMx’s best-selling Little Damn Heroes line of animated chibi-style figures, Star Trek fans can expect to see a full line of small-scale character maquettes that are as well-crafted as they are adorable.
“Working on Star Trek products is something of a dream come true for our team,” said QMx CEO Andy Gore. “Whether it’s a key chain, a screen-accurate prop or FX model, folks can expect us to put extra effort into surprising and delighting them.”
Star Trek collectibles will be available in comic, collector and specialty stores around the country, and are also available directly atwww.qmxonline.com.
