“Here, lizard lizard lizard!” Size does matter as the stars of Rifftrax are set to bring larger-than-life laughs nationwide as they riff on one of the most frequently requested titles in RiffTrax history, “Godzilla.” Thanks to a hugely successful Kickstarter campaign that raised money to license a “big” Hollywood title, the RiffTrax crew – Michael J. Nelson, Kevin Murphy and Bill Corbett (best known for the groundbreaking “Mystery Science Theater 3000”) – are back again this summer with a riotous never-before-seen take on the ‘90s creature feature. Presented by Fathom Events, RiffTrax and IGN, “RiffTrax Live: Godzilla” will be broadcast LIVE to select movie theaters nationwide on Thursday, August 14, at 8:00 p.m. ET/ 7:00 p.m. CT and tape-delayed to 7:00 p.m. MT/ 8:00 p.m. PT, with a second showing on Tuesday, August 19 at 7:30 p.m. local time.
Tickets for “RiffTrax Live: Godzilla” are available at participating theater box offices and online at www.FathomEvents.com. The event will be presented in nearly 650 select movie theaters around the country through Fathom’s Digital Broadcast Network. “Thanks to our many Kickstarter contributors we’re happy to be able to do the best giant lizard movie of the late 90’s!” said Michael J. Nelson of RiffTrax. “Because everything about it is big, we pledge to supersize the laughs as well.”
One of the most frequently requested titles in RiffTrax history, the 1998 daikaiju flick “Godzilla” was reimagined from the popular Japanese film of the same name but with bigger, better visual effects. The plot revolves around a giant reptilian monster, mutated by nuclear tests in French Polynesia, that makes its way north to nest its young and begins wreaking havoc on New York City. Directed by Roland Emmerich with screenplay by Dean Devlin and Emmerich, the film stars Matthew Broderick (Dr. Niko Tatopoulos), Maria Pitillo (Audrey Timmonds), Hank Azaria (Victor ‘Animal’ Palotti), Kevin Dunn (Colonel Hicks), Jean Reno (Philippe Roaché) and the Taco Bell Chihuahua…?!
“The RiffTrax crew has kept Fathom audiences in stitches thanks to their comedic genius and quick wit,” said Shelly Maxwell, executive vice president of Fathom Events. “‘RiffTrax Live: Godzilla’ is the perfect match for another night of monstrous laughs in theaters nationwide.”
