Hungarian Inventor Professor Erno Rubik created the Rubik’s Cube in 1974 and today, July 13th, is his 77th birthday! To celebrate, Rubik’s Ambassador Brian Kobasa created an awesome mosaic made of 768 Cubes.
Rubik’s Cube, the incredibly addictive and iconic puzzle recently acquired by Spin Master is the best-selling and most recognized toy of all time, with over 450 million cubes sold.
Brian’s Rubik’s Cube art is created from HUNDREDS of cubes that he meticulously solves to create the patterns that become the image. He’s a software engineer from Denver, Colorado and has been solving cubes for 20 years, and making portraits for about 2.5 years. Check out his art on Instagram here.
He wrote his own computer program to help him make designs, which is available for anyone to use. It has led to many cool experiences, such as getting to display a portrait for a Mos Def concert, being invited to build and then display a portrait for a month-long art exhibit, and recently, having a Joel Embiid portrait featured on all of the ESPN platforms.
