Figure Spotlight: Funko’s Disney Afternoon Series 2

After a long wait, the second wave of Funko’s Disney Afternoon action figures is hitting stores soon. This wave includes Duck Tales’ Gizmoduck, Darkwing Duck’s Launchpad McQuack, Rescue Ranger’s Gadget and Talespin’s King Louie. Funko was kind enough to send the set over to the AwesomeToyBlog HQ for an early look.

As each of the figures in the wave is associated with a different Disney animated show, each is carded on a different cardback. These cardbacks (Darkwing Duck, Duck Tales, Rescue Rangers, Talespin) are the same as series 1 which keeps continuity between the different releases. As future series come to market, expect the cardbacks to continue, which will build up a nice collection for each show. On the card, the figure is featured prominently in a bubble.

Off the cards, however, is where the figures really shine. Each figure is a new sculpt and has unique points of articulation. Gadget has articulation at her ankles, hips, waist, shoulders, elbows and neck. She includes a wrench accessory. Launchpad has articlation at the ankles, waist, shoulders, elbows and neck. King Louie’s hips, waist, shoulders, elbows and neck. Finally Gizmoduck might be the most unique in the wave with a spinning wheel, waist, shoulders, elbows and neck. He also includes a stand, which is helpful when you only have one leg and it’s a wheel. Across all the figures the sculpts are well detailed and the paint is perfect. Perhaps its the animated style of the figures, but really…the paint is perfect.

The second wave of Disney Afternoon figures by Funko are extremely well executed and fans of these shows will want to grab these for sure. They keep up the quality of the first series and do an excellent job of expanding the casts of each of these shows. As a casual fan of the Disney Afternoon cartoons (I was just a few years off of being the primary audience) Launchpad and Gizmoduck stand-out as my favorites in the wave…and really it’s all about Gizmoduck. He’s just soooo good.

Look for these in stores soon and thanks to Funko for the chance to get an early look at these figures.
