Not only can you find the Doctor in the TARDIS, you’ll soon find him on Amazon. Amazon and BBC Worldwide North America announced a multi-year content licensing agreement to make Prime Video the exclusive U.S. subscription streaming home for the award-winning series Doctor Who. Seasons 1-8, including all the Christmas specials will be streaming starting March 27th, 2016. Season 9 and the Christmas Special, The Husbands of River Song will be available Fall 2016.
These will stream free for Amazon Prime members who can enjoy the series via the Amazon Video app for TVs, connected devices including Amazon Fire TV and mobile devices, or online. If you don’t have Amazon Prime and want to enjoy a free 30-day trial, check it out here.
Have they announced who will be streaming Classic episodes of Doctor Who? Previously, Netflix and Hulu in the US had the classic series. Now it is gone from both. I wonder if Amazon has exclusive access to this, or if perhaps a separate announcement is coming?
Dan – excellent question. The press release was very specific that it covered 2005-now Who…no word on Classic Who. I hope a new home is announced for classic Who streaming – there’s some amazing stories there!
