One of the best parts of Comic-con is going on and checking out different things. Most of my time is spent in a pretty small section of the exhibit hall – where the toys are, but I like to get out to the other parts of the show. Today I had the chance to talk with the folks at Stern Pinball (at booth #503) and give their Metallica and Iron Man pinballs a whirl. It was pretty awesome – the Metallica pinball was my favorite, everything from the game play to the classic style pinball art felt just perfect. It didn’t hurt that I had a pretty good game when I gave it a go.
I also learned a bunch of stuff that I didn’t know about Stern pinball like:
- They’re designed and made in the USA!
- Stern Pinball is the oldest and largest designer and manufacturer of arcade-quality pinball games
- From concept to finished pinball game takes roughly a year
- Pinball machines are experiencing a renaissance as a new generation is starting to experience actual pinball machines for the first time (as evidenced by the two kids having a blast while I was hanging out in the booth)
Checking out these two pinball games was a real highlight of my day…it helped that the one game on the Metallica pinball was really solid. If you’re at SDCC, be sure to swing by booth #503 and see how high you can score. If you’re not at SDCC, head out and find your local arcade and drop a few coins into a pinball macine.
