Toy Fair 2012 – Activision’s Skylanders Giants

This past holiday season the game Skylanders Spyro’s Adventure was huge, topping the sales charts. The gist of the game is that you connect a platform to your console; place an action figure on the platform and that becomes your character in the game. By swapping out different characters (by changing which figure is on the platform) you gain different abilities and new ways to unlock and play. New for 2012 Activision has announced Skylanders Giants which builds on the first game by introducing twenty new characters, while maintaining compatibility with all Skylanders from Spyro’s Adventure. New in Sylanders Giants, are, well…giants. These 8 characters are much bigger than the original Skylanders – both in the game and the physical collectible figure. Also new is the inclusion of some figures that feature lights, that glow when the figure is near or on the Portal of Power. Finally – there will be an additional 8 basic Skylanders.

During toy fair there was a live demo of the game, demonstrating the different abilities and ways the giants could interact with their world. I’ll be honest, I think the way this game takes a collectible figure and uses it to unlock and become part of a virtual world is pretty awesome. Check out the gallery below to see some of the new Skylanders.

Skylanders Giants will be available for Wii, Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and mobile devices. Skylanders Spyro’s Adventures is available now.
