Star Wars Black Series

Two More Hasbro Reveals from London Comic Con – Black Knight and Porgs

Over the weekend I shared some pictures from Hasbro’s London Comic Con reveals and today I have two more to share.

Joining the next Avengers wave of Marvel Legends is Black Knight and the Star Wars 6″ Black Series is picking up a 2-pack of Porgs. Both of these releases are expected in Spring 2018, and the Porgs have an SRP of $5.99.

Another New Black Series Vehicle Revealed: Luke’s Speeder

Another day closer to Star Wars Celebration resulted in another new reveal from Hasbro of Star Wars toys to come. Today Yahoo revealed another $60 Black Series vehicle – Luke with his X-34 landspeeder. The landspeeder includes a stand giving it the appearance of hovering and includes a Tatooine Luke figure.

The new 6″ Tatooine Luke figure includes his macrobinoculars, lightsaber hilt, and slugthrower rifle, and his hat and goggles. The speeder includes a place for the rifle to be stored.

Look for this new vehicle in the fall and look for more Star Wars reveals later this weekend from Star Wars Celebration.

Update: New images direct from our friends at Hasbro!

Star Wars Black Series SDCC Exclusive Jabba the Hutt and Salacious Crumb Announced

SDCC 2014 logoIn a bit of a jump on Star Wars days festivities, Entertainment Weekly spilled the beans on the 2014 SDCC Exclusive Star Wars Black Series 6″ scale Jabba the Hutt. This is, of course, not a complete surprise since this was heavily hinted at during NYTF. Jabba and Salacious Crumb are packaged in a window box that recreates Jabba’s throne room and includes his hookah.  The box also includes a place for part of last year’s SDCC exclsuive – the Han Solo in carbonite – a very cool idea.

As usual, any remaining stock after SDCC should be available at, but I know what I’ll be waiting in line for!

What I Bought Today: 6″ Star Wars Black 2014 Wave 1

wibt tn Item: Bespin Luke, Revenge of the Site Obi-Wan Kenobi, Stormtrooper (and another Han Solo)
Line: Star Wars Black Series 6″
Manufacturer: Hasbro
Store: Entertainment Earth (Full Case in-stock now)

Bio/Package Text: Obi-Wan: Obi-Wan is forced to battle his friend Anakin Skywalker in a devastating lightsaber duel after Anakin turns to the dark side. “I have failed you, Anakin.”
Luke Skywalker: Luke battles Darth Vader on a narrow platform in Cloud City and rejects Vader’s urging to turn to the dark side and rule the galaxy with him. “You’ll find I’m full of surprises.”
Stormtrooper: Stromtroopers board the Rebel Blockade Runner Tantive IV and send word to Darth Vader that they have captured Princess Leia. “Inform Lord Vader we have a prisoner.”

Thoughts: For someone who doesn’t like 6″ figures, I sure have been buying a lot of them lately. Also, these are ridiculously fantastic figures. Every Star Wars fan should own Bespin Luke and the Stromtrooper.

I do want to call out a few things I’m not crazy about. For starters, the Han Solo in the case should be a Stormtrooper. I know the case pack has been criticized ad nauseam, but I just wish there had been a second Stormtrooper in the box. Also the Stormtrooper’s head seems to sit a little tall, he has a bit too much neck showing. Finally, my Obi-Wan Kenobi has a little bit of crazy eye happening…something to look out for if you’re grabbing these at retail.

Other than those three things…I LOVE these.  The sculpts are amazing….Luke’s a tough likeness to capture and he’s really good. I’m also impressed with how good Obi-Wan’s soft goods ‘skirt’ is integrated into the entire look, it’s a great weight of material to use at this scale and the details on the sculpted parts of the outfit match the knit of the fabric very well. Accessories you can’t see well in the photos below include Luke’s blaster, the Stormtrooper’s blaster and blaster rifle. The lightsaber blades can be removed from the hilt.

Summary: If you like Star Wars…just go buy these. They’re fantastic.

Star Wars Day came a day early as USA Today announced a huge Hasbro Star Wars SDCC exclusive. Joining the ranks of the new 6″ Star Wars Black Series is everyone’s favorite bounty hunter Boba Fett. As rumored at toy fair, Boba Fett will come with a Han Solo encased in carbonite. Together these two will run $44.99 and come in a very fancy box and will be available at the HasbroToyShop booth at SDCC. Limited quantities are likely to be available after the show – and Mr. Fett himself should be available as a general release.
