The Jim Henson Company to Develop Kids Series Based on IAmElemental’s Female Action Figures

The Jim Henson Company announced today it will develop a new animated children’s television series based on the popular female action figures by IAmElemental.  The series will target children ages 6 to 12. The deal will give The Jim Henson Company the opportunity to develop and produce the television series across all platforms. Lisa Henson and Halle Stanford of The Jim Henson Company will serve as executive producers.

IAmElemental created the first-ever female action figures designed specifically for children.  Its Series 1/Courage figures include Bravery, Honesty, Fear, Enthusiasm, Energy, Industry and Persistence.  Series 2/Wisdom includes Creativity, Ingenuity, Curiosity, Logic, Exploration, Mastery and Oblivion. The company conducted a Kickstarter campaign which was fully funded in two days, drawing backers from all 50 states and six continents, and its groundbreaking products were named by TIME Magazine as one of the “25 Best Inventions of 2014” and “Top 10 Toys of 2014.”  Most recently, IAmElemental was selected as a finalist in the 2018 “Action Figure of the Year” category at the Toy Industry Association’s Toy of the Year Awards.  The company was also a 2017 finalist in two categories, “Action Figure of the Year” and “Rookie of the Year.”

“At The Jim Henson Company, we have a tradition of creating strong female heroes in our past and current television and film franchises,” said Halle Stanford, President of Television at The Jim Henson Company. “Partnering with IAmElemental is incredibly exciting because it will be our first foray into the superhero genre with a cast of powerful young women at its core.  We are excited to introduce a unique and fresh superhero television series geared for children all over the world.”

“We are thrilled and grateful for the opportunity to work with the Superhero team at The Jim Henson Company,” said Julie Kerwin, Chief Elemental Officer, IAmElemental.  “Their Superpowers of creativity and originality have inspired me both as a child and as an adult, and I couldn’t wish for a better partner to bring the IAmElemental messages of character strength and empowerment to a wider audience.”

IAmElemental’s female action figures boast a forward-thinking design and engineering unique among products designed for children.  Its Series 1/Courage figures, modeled on Joan of Arc, represent character traits including Bravery, Honesty, Fear, Enthusiasm, Energy, Industry and Persistence.  Series 2/Wisdom, with ancient Alexandrian STEM pioneer Hypatia as the muse, includes Creativity, Curiosity, Ingenuity, Exploration, Logic, Mastery and Oblivion.

“We are beyond thrilled with this industry recognition for the second year in a row,” said Chief Elemental Officer Julie Kerwin.  “Our Series 1/Courage figures were chosen as Action Figure of the Year finalists last year, and our company as a finalist for Rookie of the Year.  It is wonderful to see our startup company’s progress validated by toy industry leaders, as it helps us deliver our message of strength and empowerment to a wider audience.”

IAmElemental Supports Pediatric Cancer Patients with Buy One, Donate One Program

iamelementalIn support of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month this September, IAmElemental, creator of the first female action figures designed specifically for children, is bringing its superheroes to the fight against pediatric cancer.  The company’s popular Courage Core Power female action figures – modeled on Joan of Arc and embodying Bravery, Energy, Honesty, Industry, Enthusiasm, Persistence and Fear – are being deployed to comfort and inspire children and their families affected by these devastating diseases.

During September, IAmElemental is conducting a Buy One, Donate One program for every Courage Core Power female action figure purchased in the company’s online store at http://shop.iamelemental.com.  The company will distribute one figure to a child affected by cancer for each figure purchased.  The 6.5” Core Power female action figure, which retails for $24.99, is a fusion of all Elements in Series 1/Courage.  She features more than 30 points of articulation and includes removable accessories including a helmet, armor, flaming Energy sword and Courage shield.

“Like so much in the IAmElemental universe, our association with childhood cancer comes from our close relationship with our customers,” said Chief Elemental Officer Julie Kerwin.  “Fourteen-year-old Anna Bosma of Harbor Springs, MI was an IAmElemental superfan – a collector of our Series 1/Courage female action figures who eagerly awaited the release of Series 2/Wisdom this fall. Upon learning from her grandmother that she was unlikely to see their release, we sent her an advance set of our newest figures.  Sadly, Anna succumbed this summer after a four-year fight.  Our Buy One, Donate One program honors her legacy, and her wish that IAmElemental figures be shared with others.  Anna understood – more than I could ever dream – about Courage and Superpowers and Character.   And it is Anna who continues, every day, to push us and inspire us.  We are so grateful to Anna’s parents, Buck and Heidi Bosma, for allowing us to celebrate Anna’s life this way, and for offering to work with us to bring Courage to children and families like theirs.”

IAmElemental’s Series 2/Wisdom female action figures, with ancient Alexandrian STEM pioneer Hypatia as the muse, include Creativity, Ingenuity, Curiosity, Logic, Exploration, Mastery and Oblivion and are scheduled to ship in fall 2016.

IAmElemental Reveal Series2/Wisdom Ahead of Toy Fair

tf2016IAmElemental, creators of the first female action figures designed specifically for children, today revealed the company’s newest collection.  To view Series 2/Wisdom, visit http://www.iamelemental.com.

Series 2/Wisdom is a series of seven 4” articulated action figures based on the “Elements of Power – superpowers that already exist inside each one of us,” said Julie Kerwin, IAmElemental’s Chief Elemental Officer.  “Our first figures, Series 1/Courage, were modeled on Joan of Arc.  The muse we chose for Series 2/Wisdom is Hypatia.  Daughter of the Greek scholar and mathematician Theon, she has been praised by Smithsonian magazine as ‘one of the last great thinkers of ancient Alexandria and one of the first women to study and teach mathematics, astronomy and philosophy.’  She was a STEM pioneer, writing about math, building astronomical instruments, and distilling complicated philosophical concepts into digestible bits that her students could process and understand.  Legend has it that she even drove her own chariot around Alexandria – unheard of at the time.”

Added Kerwin, “I love that Hypatia embodies the concept of a polymath: a great thinker; someone who knows a lot about a lot of different subjects.  I want every girl and boy who plays with the Wisdom series figures to not only have a lot of imaginative fun with them, but also to come away inspired to grow a powerful brain like Hypatia – to be curious and never stop learning.”

The Series 2/Wisdom action figures, unveiled at the North American International Toy Fair, include:

Creativity uses her imagination to dream up original ideas.  She has the ability to bring any object she can imagine into being.

Ingenuity is an inventive and resourceful problem solver.  She has the ability to change herself to mimic her environment.

Curiosity has the desire to learn and know everything.  She has the ability to communicate in any language.

Logic uses reason to make connections between facts and draw conclusions.  She has the ability to always distinguish what is true from what is false.

Exploration investigates and takes voyages of discovery.  She has the ability to transport herself anywhere in the world.

Mastery trains to become an expert in everything she does.  She has the ability to create physical duplicates of herself.

Oblivion wears blinders and has her head in the clouds.  She has the ability to erase memories.

The design of Series 2/Wisdom, suitable for ages 4+, continues in IAmElemental’s tradition of providing a strong, healthy female figure.  It draws inspiration from ancient Greek and Roman warriors as well as modern superheroes like real-life hero and Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai and Emily Blunt’s fictional character Rita Vrataski in Edge of Tomorrow.

IAmElemental is now accepting pre-orders for Series 2/Wisdom, with shipping anticipated in August 2016 to pre-order customers, specialty and online toy retailers.  Individual figures are available at MSRP $10.99 and complete sets of seven figures (packaged in a Lunchbox Carry Case, including a drawstring carry bag, shields, interchangeable accessories, Elements of Power chart, and trading cards, as well as an IAmElemental workbook and an adjustable bracelet which enable the action figures’ shields to be worn as charms), are available at MSRP $69.99.  The 6.5” Wisdom Core Power Figure, a fusion of all Elements in the series, will launch next, followed by Series 3/Justice in 2017.

IAmElemental is a privately held, women-owned, New York City-based company, founded in 2013.  The company conducted a Kickstarter campaign in 2014 which was fully funded in two days, drawing backers from all 50 states and six continents.

Toy Fair 2015 – I Am Elemental Courage Preview

tf15-tnLast year, IAmElemental had a successful kickstarter campaign that launched their first series of figures. At Toy Fair they introduced their first 6.5″ Core Power figure – Courage.

“We launched Series 1/Courage in 2014, including Bravery, Energy, Honesty, Industry, Enthusiasm, Persistence and Fear, and we were thrilled with the rave reviews from collectors, kids and their grownups worldwide,” said Julie Kerwin, IAmElemental’s Chief Elemental Officer.

“Like all of our action figures, our new Courage Core Power figure is a strong, healthy female, with a forward-thinking design and engineering that’s rare among products geared towards girls.  She shows that, when all of the Powers work together, they become something greater than they are individually,” added Kerwin.

While visiting their booth I snapped a picture of their Courage prototype which you can see below along with a rendering of Courage. Series 1 mystery packs are available now and stay tuned for details on how to pick up Courage and the 2nd series of figures!
