Cryptozoic and Warner Bros. Consumer Products Announce Release of DC Deck-Building Game: Confrontations

Cryptozoic Entertainment, leading creator of board games, trading cards, and collectibles, and Warner Bros. Consumer Products, on behalf of DC Entertainment, today announced the November 29 release of DC Deck-Building Game: Confrontations. In the 2-4 player team vs. team game, each player selects a DC Super Hero (Superman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, or Zatanna) or DC Super-Villain (Lex Luthor, Circe, Ocean Master, or Felix Faust) and joins another player on his or her team for a clash against two opponents. The game uses Cryptozoic’s popular Cerberus Engine, which has players build up their decks with the goal of defeating one of their opponents. The new keyword “Assist” on many cards allows a player to lend some help to his or her teammate. Though standalone, the game can be combined with any of the variations of the DC Deck-Building Game to create an even larger experience.

“While best played as a 2v2, there are 2- and 3-player variant rules,” said Lead Game Designer Matt Hyra. “Players are going to love the competitive nature of trying to take down the biggest names in the DC Universe, no matter how many players are at the table.”

In the game, each player’s DC Super Hero or DC Super-Villain has three unique versions—when one is knocked down by the opposing team, the player replaces it with the next one, which has boosted abilities and is even more difficult to take down. In order to defeat their opponents, players have to work together, taking advantage of cards with the keyword “Assist,” which allows a card to be played during a teammate’s turn and gives that teammate all the benefits.

DC Deck-Building Game: Confrontations will be available at retailers nationwide November 29 for a suggested retail price of $40.

Product Details:
  • Number of players: 2-4
  • Ages: 15+

Read Superman stories by generations of top writers and artists and enjoy sparkling essays from literary wizards who’ve won Pulitzers and become bestsellers, including Jules Feiffer. Plus, a historical essay by guest editor Paul Levitz, and all 1000 ACTION covers collected in a new poster.  And as a bonus, an UNPUBLISHED 1940s Superman tale believed to be by Jerry Siegel and the Joe Shuster studio salvaged from the DC files fifty years ago and hidden away until now.

ACTION COMICS #1000, written by Pete Tomasi and Dan Jurgens, will be published as a special, oversized edition featuring an all-star talent line-up writing back-up stories, including a story co-written by Geoff Johns and Superman film director, Richard Donner.

About ACTION COMICS 1000

In 1938, two kids from Cleveland, Ohio – Joe Shushter and Jerry Siegel – created a character they thought would represent the best of humanity in a troubled time with few beacons of hope for the future. That character went on to become one of the brightest and most well-known creations in all of pop culture: Superman. And it all began in ACTION COMICS. DC is proud to celebrate the 1000th edition of this seminal title that created the entire superhero genre – bringing joy, hope and inspiration to Superman fans around the world for 80 years.

DC is ushering in a new class of up-and-coming comic talent with the launch of the 2017 Writers Workshop program, led once again by bestselling writer Scott Snyder. The DC Talent Development team fielded more than a thousand entries again this year, selecting the best of the best among aspiring writers.

Members of the class of 2017 participating in the 13-week program include Sanya Anwar (1001), Ryan Cady (BIG MOOSE), Joey Esposito (PAWN SHOP, CAPTAIN ULTIMATE), Robert Jeffrey (ROUTE 3, RADIO FREE AMERIKA), Phillip Kennedy Johnson (LAST SONS OF AMERICA, WARLORDS OF APPALACHIA), and Magdalene Visaggio (KIM & KIM, QUANTUM TEENS ARE GO).

“We are entering the third year of this program and I’m proud to say this year’s class is another group of top notch, aspiring talent,” stated DC’s Vice President and Executive Editor of Young Reader and Talent Development, Bobbie Chase. “It’s heartening to see past Workshop participants receive regular work at DC and I have no doubt that Scott will empower this new class to be at the forefront of writing great stories for comics.”

Writers Workshop teacher Scott Snyder added, “Teaching this workshop has been one of the real highlights of my time at DC and I can’t wait to get started again. It’s an honor and thrill to work with such inspired, and inspiring talent.”

DC’s Talent Development Workshop began with a pilot session in 2015, and since then the program has resulted in several participants receiving new assignments from DC editorial. For example, the upcoming mini-series BATMAN AND THE SIGNAL will be co-written by ’16 Writers Workshop graduate Tony Patrick, alongside his teacher, Scott Snyder, with art by the acclaimed Cully Hamner. DC Collectibles Is Now On DCcomics.com

Who has the biggest collection of DC Collectibles?

You might be tempted to claim that honor for that really devoted buddy of yours who has every Batman: Black and White statue ever produced. And that guy DOES have a pretty amazing display. (Be sure to thank him for us!) But the real answer to that question is DCComics.com.

Yes, starting today, DC Collectibles has its very own section here on the official DC website, and it’s your go-to place for all the latest release information and news.

Look for our newest collectibles along the top. These are statues, action figures and other collectibles that aren’t yet in stores, but are available for pre-order from your favorite retailer. (We’ve even included links to a few outlets along with the comic shop locator service to make things extra easy for you.)

Slightly lower on the page you’ll find links to some featured stories. These features will be updated throughout the month, so stop by regularly for the latest! Below those you’ll see links to some of our social media accounts, along with some of our more recent photos to hit Instagram.

Finally, at the bottom of the page you’ll find our catalog section. You can use this section to find out what collectibles will be available in a given month, or based on a particular character or within a specific product line. It works much like the comic section on our site—you just need to use the filters along the left.

Of course, you can still always follow us on Facebook or Instagram, or sign up for our newsletter. All of those will help you stay in the know when it comes to our products. However, with the new DC Collectibles section on DCComics.com, you can browse great lines of collectibles like DC Bombshells, DC Icons, Batman: The Animated Series and Batman: Black and White any time you’d like…without having to bug your friend.

DARK DAYS Ahead for DC Universe

Kicking off a massive event this summer, The New York Times best-selling writers Scott Snyder (ALL-STAR BATMAN) and James Tynion IV (DETECTIVE COMICS) collaborate with iconic artists Andy Kubert (DARK KNIGHT III: THE MASTER RACE), Jim Lee (SUICIDE SQUAD) and John Romita Jr. (ALL-STAR BATMAN) for DARK DAYS: THE FORGE #1 and DARK DAYS: THE CASTING #1.

Spearheaded by Snyder, these new stories will reveal the dark underbelly of the DC Universe. The mysteries of THE FORGE and THE CASTING will hit shelves on June 14 and July 12, respectively, and break new ground in DC’s publishing line.

“Art like this demands an epic story,” says Snyder. “DARK DAYS posits a mystery that traces all the way back to when I started on BATMAN. I’ve hinted at them over the years with Easter eggs and clues. This is a mystery that literally begins at the dawn of man and spans generations of heroes and villains and ultimately leads to huge revelations about the past, present and future of the cosmology of DC. I couldn’t be more excited for DARK DAYS. It’s the prelude to the event we’ve been developing for years.”

“We’re taking all the ethos and excitement of the work Scott and I have been doing in the Batman titles and unleashing it across the entire DC Universe,” adds Tynion IV. “The size and scope of what we’re looking to do with DARK DAYS could only be accomplished by the best of the best. Andy, Jim and John are legends. All of us on this project are pushing one another, and every concept, to the extreme.”

Visually powering this event is a master class of artists, including Kubert, Lee and Romita Jr., who will drive DC’s initiative to bring artists to the forefront of the storytelling process. Beginning with DARK DAYS, these writers and artists will collaborate to develop new ideas and characters, further enriching the DC Universe.

“Working with Scott and James on DARK DAYS is the culmination of the big ideas and endless brainstorming that came out of a recent creative summit,” explains Lee. “It was tremendous fun having peers like Andy Kubert and JRJR in with some of our top writers. Strategically, Dan and I have talked for a long time about bringing the artist back to the table in the genesis of big, epic events. The creative summit was just that, and the level of collaboration was truly invigorating and electrifying. We can’t wait to share DARK DAYS with the DC faithful…they’re in for a thrill ride!”
