Four Additional Mezco SDCC Exclusives Revealed

SDCC 2016 logoMezco started revealing their SDCC exclusives over the weekend and kept the ball rolling today with the reveal of four additional exclusives. Here they are along with their description’s from Mezco’s site.

One:12 Collective Armored Batman

Armored Batman has light up eyes — I think everyone expected that but still we are pretty damn proud of it. Also, components of his armor are cast in real metal, not die-cast metal, REAL metal.

Oh, and speaking of metal, he comes with his anti-Superman weapon of choice — a REAL metal kryptonite spear.

Batman is geared in his cloth outfit underneath his armor just as seen in the film. He includes 3 sets of hands and his heavy-duty grapple gun (different from his standard release version).

Living Dead Dolls Rain – Resurrection Series

From the funeral sky she descends, from the darkness she arrives. A fan favorite and grail doll to legions, this summer sees the Resurrection of Rain.

Continuing in our single Doll Resurrection series, Rain was an easy choice for us when it came time to develop another beloved character for this deluxe edition. Rain is such a personal doll that we wanted to stay true to the characters original concept, while still giving her an updated look. She comes cloaked in a simple gown with feathery wings of ghostly white. Upon her head sits a crown of thorns leaving marks of the pain she endured streaming down her forehead and crimson tears that leak from her glass-like eyes.

This is the first time any variation has been made of Rain. She is one of the most sought after Living Dead Dolls ever produced. Here is your chance to own her Resurrected. Don’t miss out!

Thundercats Phasing Tygra

Heeding the call of the Sword Of Omens, Tygra’s eyes flare as he sees the ThunderCats signal projected in the sky. He’s off, across the battlefield, bolas in hand. The Mutants think they have him. They out number him twenty-to-one and they all have weapons of stone and metal, all he has is his whip — and his wits. He jumps, seems to flicker in mid air, and then he’s gone from sight. Before they know what’s happening, an invisible assailant is dismantling their forces from within their midst. Moments later, the mutants are in a heap, with no clue what hit them. Tygra phases to visibility again and smirks.

We’re proud to present our convention exclusive phasing variant of Tygra, from our Mega Scale ThunderCats line.

One:12 Collective Classic Captain America

Another one of our Con Exclusives this year is the One:12 Classic Captain America figure and he has some cool features that will only be available with this version.

Let’s start with the classic color palette of his uniform: with bright, bold reds, whites, and blues and scalloped chest armor, there is no mistaking that this is the version of Captain America that is from days past.

Cap features a completely new head sculpt of his retro winged helmet and comes with an alternate unmasked head. He of course comes with his trusty shield (which some would argue defies the laws of physics), a boot knife which sheaths nicely in his, well…boot, a shield harness, and a bunch of different hands for posing, fighting, and throwing his star spangled disc.

Aside from all of that, this version comes with even more. There are strong micro magnets embedded in his upper gloves and harness that connect with a magnet in the underside of his shield. Most importantly, he comes in a deluxe round tin package with his shield insignia printed on the top. Open the tin case and you will find the super soldier transformation chamber where through the magic of lenticular animation you can see Steve Rogers change from scrawny weakling to heroically large proportions right before your eyes.

All of these exclusives will be available for pre-order starting June 8th 2016 and you can find them all right here. They will, of course, also be available at the show at the Mezco booth.

Toy Fair 2015 – Mezco

tf15-tnGoing into the Mezco booth, I knew to be amazed by their new 6″ Batman, Mutant and Judge Dredd figures.  All the amazing press these figures have gotten looks to be well deserved…these figures were fantastic.

However, a couple of other products were trying to steal the spotlight, the largest new debut was a huge Bugs Bunny figure. Based on his earlier appearances, he features a spot on likeness to everyone’s favorite rabbit. I was also taken with the mother from Psycho…a completely unexpected figure, which made it all the better.

Finally there’s even a surprise for Thundercats fans, after a little bit of a break, Mezco’s Mega scale line is continuing with the announcment of a Tigra figure. See these, and everything else below.

Game Review: Thundercats for Nintendo DS

A few weeks ago the Thundercats game was released for the Nintendo DS by Bandai-Namco. Obviously I’ve been sitting on this review and frankly, the game isn’t very good. The story stars off promisingly enough, setting a stage where the lizard army is attacking Thundera and General Grune betrays the cats – similar to the pilot of the animated series reboot. Unfortunately, as soon as you start to play the game, the fun is pretty much over.

The game is a simple 2D side-scrolling platform game where you primarily play as Lion-O. No complaints there, I’ve played plenty of great 2D scrollers, and being Lion-O armed with the Sword of Omens fighting Mumm-Ra and an army of lizards could be a blast. It could be, but it’s not. The graphics and music are dated, I’ll assume they were targeting for a retro-vibe and just didn’t get there. That’s kinder than to assume that these were the best graphics and music they could come up with.

Gameplay is boring and repetitive. Clearly the designers ascribed to the philosophy that “more is more” since you simply go through stage after stage fighting a seemingly endless number of identical enemies with the same attack over and over and over again. In some games this amounts to mindless fun – here it is just mindless. Throughout game play some variety is introduced as you can have characters drop in and help, but it’s not enough to save the game. On top of the boring gameplay, the mechanics of the game are sloppy and Lion-O is difficult to control. The good news is, you’ll want to quit playing before the poor mechanics really start to bother you.

I’ll stop here, actually, which is about where I stopped in the game. I went far enough to really realize I wasn’t having fun, despite the fact that I really wanted it. It’s disappointing and unfortunate that this game is the final product to come from Bandai’s Thundercats reboot, it certainly didn’t end on a high note. Instead of this game, you should grab yourself a set of the Icon Heroes Thundercats minimates – you’ll have a lot more fun with those.

Third series of Thundercats Minimates due this Spring

Icon Heroes posted images of the third series of Thundercats Minimates today. This series, due this Spring includes Tygra, Cheetara, Wilykit, Wilykat and the Ro-Bear Berbil Bill. Enjoy the pictures in the gallery below.

Thundercats reboot over

The fine folks at Toy News International reported today that the Thundercats reboot, both animated series and toy line, are officially done. This isn’t a huge surprise, given how the animated series has been in limbo for some time. In addition to the Bandai toy line ending, they confirm that the statues from Pop Culture Shock have also been cancelled. The status of Mezco’s mega-scale figures and Icon Heroes (with help from Diamond Select Toys) Thundercats Minimates are unknown.
