MattyCollector September sale and DC subscription update

September 5th, 2011 MattG Posted in DC Universe, Masters of the Universe, News No Comments »

The line-up for the September 15th MattyCollector.com sale has been announced and includes the following figures:

  • MOTUC Hurricane Hordak
  • MOTUC Leech
  • MOTUC Chief Carnivus (re-issue, with burst)
  • JLU 3-Pack- The Flash, Green Lantern and Hawkman.
  • JLU 3-Pack – Adam Strange, Animal Man and Star Man.
  • Kyle Rayner Retro Action® DC Super Heroes

The September sale takes place on the 15th of the month at noon Eastern, 9AM Pacific time only on MattyCollector.com.

Other MattyCollector news of note – the DC Universe subscription (Club Infinite Earths) failed to reach 100% of its sales quota; but despite that – the club will go forward.  To compensate for the less than desired number of subscriptions sold; figures sold on the day of Matty sales will be priced several dollars higher than had a subscription been purchased.  Here’s hoping that the club is a success going forward, that both those who purchased a subscription and the cherry pickers are happy in the end.

Even more updates from Matty regarding 2012 subscriptions

August 16th, 2011 MattG Posted in DC Universe, Masters of the Universe No Comments »

After the final extension of the subscription period, a few new pieces of news have come out of the Matty camp this week; and its a mixed bag.

  • Masters of the Universe subscriptions did meet the threshold, but are at their lowest level yet. As a result the number of figures available for non-subscriber “day of” sales will be more limited then originally expected.  Interestingly, one of the reasons cited by Matty for limiting availability was to keep some demand on the secondary market.
  • One of the most requested items this year was the ability for subscribers to “add on” the additional 30th Anniversary figures to their subscription, it looks like this will be available in time to catch 5 of the 6 figures.  The first, Fearless Photog, will be out before this capability will be added and will only be available on the day off.  This “add on” will only be available to existing Club Eternia members.
  • Another new capability that is pending for Digital River, the company that handles the MattyCollector.com infrastructure is the ability to combine subscriptions purchased at different times.  If you ordered the Club Lion Force subscription when they were first made available and are now considering Club Eternia, around March you’ll be able to combine these into one order – saving you in shipping.  This is something that had been impossible to do in the past.
  • The DC Universe Club Infinite Earths subscription is hanging out just below 50% with a few days left.

That’s the news from Matty.  While you’re reading, enjoy this updated image of the first 30th Anniversary Figure – Fearless Photog.

Matty extends subscription deadline one last time

August 15th, 2011 MattG Posted in DC Universe, Masters of the Universe, News No Comments »

The deadline for subscribing to any (or all) of Matty’s 2012 collector’s clubs has been extended one last time.  Any orders for the clubs must now be placed prior to Monday, August 22nd at 11:59 PM Pacific.  This is roughly one month after the subscription period opened.  At the time of writing, the DC Universe club Infinite Earths was just over 40% sold; at this point there will need to be a mad rush of subscribers to make this club come to fruition.  Or Matty could change the rules.

Head over to MattyCollector.com to check out the available 2012 subscriptions.

Matty extends DC subscription sign-up window, also miscalculates Club Eternia costs

August 4th, 2011 MattG Posted in DC Universe, Masters of the Universe, News No Comments »

Two new Matty updates today!  First up; the DC Universe subscription, Club Infinite Earths is 71% shy of its goal to make it to production.  Matty has decided to keep the subscription period open an extra week giving the club every chance to hit its goal.

On the Masters of the Universe subsciption, the fine folks at MattyCollector realized their quota club costs for the year missed $80 worth of figures; so a subscription now runs $510 + shipping/tax/fees for the full run  – which does not include any 30th anniversary figures.

The Club Eternia, Lion Force and Ecto-1 subscription period ends tomorrow.

Matty on MotU – No more reissues, lower production quantities

August 3rd, 2011 MattG Posted in DC Universe, Masters of the Universe, News No Comments »

Matty posted some updates on his facebook page today regarding the 2012 run of Masters of the Universe Classics.  In true Matty style, this is all information that should have been provided when the subscription period started; as customers only have one chance to bundle their subscriptions together.  The updates are:

  • Production of the “extra” figures for non-subscribers has been decreased; while the lack of instant sell-outs has, in general, pleased fans – the casual collector may likely become re-acquainted with Matty’s white screen.
  • Reissues of figures (at least for now) are a thing of the past.  Beginning with Man-E-Faces, figures will be available once and then gone forever.  Or, until Matty makes them available again.

And regarding the Club Infinite Earths – the DC Universe subscription; things aren’t looking great.  With just 28% of the necessary subscribers signed up,  it is doubtful this club is going to materialize.

Now, to editorialize – I seriously contemplated getting a Club Eternia subscription this year, but I’m really only interested in the basic figures – no huge figures, multipacks, vehicles, etc. and I’ve had no issue getting the figures I want from MattyCollector.com on the sale day…so I opted to not subscribe and planned on picking Shadow Weaver up eventually.  But I did sign up for club Lion Force, since that Voltron is pretty swank.  Had these news items been made available when sales started, I likely would have subscribed to Club Eternia – benefited from combined shipping and not worried about white screens.  Now if I were to subscribe, I would not be able to combine shipping – so I’m not going to.  If I miss out on figures, I miss out on figures and get to keep $30 in my pocket for each one I miss.  Sorry Matty, you screwed this one up.

After the MattyCollector panel on Friday, the Masters of the Universe display was updated with many of the announced figures for this year’s subscription.  It’s a great looking batch of figures, that Sorceress figure is very impressive.  Also on display were 6 ‘mini’-Masters of the Universe figures.  Featuring a “Super Hero Squad” type aesthetic, these figures (sculpted by the Four Horsemen) are not firmly slated for release – if you like the feeling of these, be sure to let Matty know!
