DC Announces Writers Workshop Class of 2017

DC is ushering in a new class of up-and-coming comic talent with the launch of the 2017 Writers Workshop program, led once again by bestselling writer Scott Snyder. The DC Talent Development team fielded more than a thousand entries again this year, selecting the best of the best among aspiring writers.

Members of the class of 2017 participating in the 13-week program include Sanya Anwar (1001), Ryan Cady (BIG MOOSE), Joey Esposito (PAWN SHOP, CAPTAIN ULTIMATE), Robert Jeffrey (ROUTE 3, RADIO FREE AMERIKA), Phillip Kennedy Johnson (LAST SONS OF AMERICA, WARLORDS OF APPALACHIA), and Magdalene Visaggio (KIM & KIM, QUANTUM TEENS ARE GO).

“We are entering the third year of this program and I’m proud to say this year’s class is another group of top notch, aspiring talent,” stated DC’s Vice President and Executive Editor of Young Reader and Talent Development, Bobbie Chase. “It’s heartening to see past Workshop participants receive regular work at DC and I have no doubt that Scott will empower this new class to be at the forefront of writing great stories for comics.”

Writers Workshop teacher Scott Snyder added, “Teaching this workshop has been one of the real highlights of my time at DC and I can’t wait to get started again. It’s an honor and thrill to work with such inspired, and inspiring talent.”

DC’s Talent Development Workshop began with a pilot session in 2015, and since then the program has resulted in several participants receiving new assignments from DC editorial. For example, the upcoming mini-series BATMAN AND THE SIGNAL will be co-written by ’16 Writers Workshop graduate Tony Patrick, alongside his teacher, Scott Snyder, with art by the acclaimed Cully Hamner. Also, the latest edition of DC’s NEW TALENT SHOWCASE will be released in November and will feature stories from graduates of past DC Writers and Artists Workshops.

One:12 Collective Batman: Ascending Knight Now Available for Pre-Order

Every Knight has a beginning and the One:12 Collective’s Batman starts here. Batman—Ascending Knight is part of a trilogy: A beginning, a middle and an end. The Ascending Knight is Batman in his first year; designed to be contemporary but still have a first appearance feel. This is the Batman of 10 years ago, as he just began his war on crime.
At the start of his crime-fighting career Bruce Wayne is still working things out, finding what works and what doesn’t. Some of his tech and gear is still a bit unfinished and raw. His Bat Suit is bulky, showing that he has not yet fine-tuned it.

Of course the design pays homage to Batman as he first appeared in Detective Comics. The shape of his cowl, the shorter gloves and the smaller symbol on his chest are all inspired by his original debut in the comics.
The One:12 Collective Batman—Ascending Knight features:

  • One (1) detailed Batman head portrait
  • One (1) detailed Bruce Wayne head portrait
  • A One:12 Collective body with over 30 points of articulation
  • Hand-painted, authentic detailing
  •  Over 16cm tall
  • Seven (7) interchangeable hands including: One (1) pair of fists (L & R), One (1) pair of Batarang holding hands (L & R), One (1) pair of posing hands (L & R), One (1) grappling-hook holding hand (R)
  • Costume: Cowled Head, Spandex outfit with body armor detail, Leather-like cape, 3D chest insignia, Spiked wrist cuffs and SAP gloves, Utility belt with grapple gun holster, Highly detailed tactical boots
  • Accessories: One (1) grappling gun, One (1) closed grappling hook for grappling gun, One (1) open grappling hook for grappling gun, One (1) open grappling hook with attached rope
    •  Six (6) Batarangs, One (1) heavy assault Batarang (Bat-brick), One (1) tranq-dart wrist crossbow, One (1) One:12 Collective display base with logo, One (1) One:12 Collective adjustable display post

Each One:12 Collective Batman—Ascending Knight figure is packaged in a deluxe, collector friendly box, designed with collectors in mind, there are no twist ties for easy in and out of package display.

DC Comics Bombshells Trading Cards

The set is based on DC’s popular line of statues and comic books that is inspired by 1940s pinup art and reimagines DC’s history by placing its powerful female characters at the center of World War II. The 63-card Base Set and Chase Sets feature art from the covers of the DC Comics Bombshells comic book series—including drawings by Ant Lucia—and from DC Comics Bombshells variant covers of other comic books, as well as the illustrations used to create Cryptozoic’s DC Bombshells and Lil Bombshells figures.
