2013 is a huge year for Doctor Who, the acclaimed series celebrates it’s 50th anniversary! We here at AwesomeToyBlog HQ couldn’t be more excited and to celebrate we are taking this week to shine a light on some of the new products available from Bif Bang Pow! This final entry in the series will focus on Bif Bang Pow!’s TARDIS playset with K9.
Bif Bang Pow!’s TARDIS playset stands at about 11 1/2 inches tall and is constructed from heavy cardboard. Two sides of the TARDIS open up revealing the interior, including a TARDIS console which stands just about 7 inches tall from base to the top of the time rotor. The printing and graphic design used for both the interior and exterior of the TARDIS is quite good. Liberties with the design have been taken, most notably with the size of the console – but the costs and size of the playset to fit a properly sized console would have been prohibitively large. Overall, I’m happy with Bif Bang Pow’s TARDIS, and I’m looking forward to getting my figures in there and taking some photos.
While I’m happy with the TARDIS playset, I’m thrilled with Bif Bang Pow!’s K9 figure. This single piece figure (no points of articulation) is almost perfect – it is one of my favorite K9 toys produced yet. The sculpt is great – the only inaccuracy that bugs me is that this nose blaster is a bit too low. The paint job is also very good – but I do wish that the ‘bumpers’ along the bottom had been painted black. But I’ll be fair, I only notice these things since K9 is one of my absolute favorite Who characters of all time. When I was watching 4th Doctor episodes on PBS as a kid, I was the age where K9 was the coolest thing in the world, and well – I never grew out of that. As a result, I’m thrilled that K9 has joined the ranks of the Bif Bang Pow! Doctor Who line, and he’s joined it with a very good figure.
