DC Entertainment, Junk Food Clothing team up to fight hunger

During SDCC the Michael J. Wolf Fine Art Gallery (363 5th Ave., San Diego) is hosting the Darkness & Light: Art Inspired by Heroes & Villains, Hope & Heroism art exhibition. During this show, patrons will have the opportunity to order Junk Food vintage tees featuring select art from the show, simply by scanning a QR Code on the gallery curatorial card.  For each shirt purchased, $15 will go to provide hunger relief in Africa via the WE CAN BE HEROES campaign. This $15 donation represents 10 nutritious meals to a needy child in Ethiopia.

BURBANK, California (July 6, 2012) — Fans who attend San Diego Comic-Con next week will have a unique opportunity to don custom t-shirts featuring DC Comics-inspired artwork as interpreted by some of today’s top contemporary artists and help the hungry in the Horn of Africa.

Junk Food Clothing Co is teaming up with DC Entertainment and Warner Bros Consumer Products to launch a high-tech, innovative digital museum shop at the Darkness & Light: Art Inspired by Heroes & Villains, Hope & Heroism art exhibition open all week at the Michael J. Wolf Fine Art Gallery, 363 5th Ave., San Diego.

Gallery patrons will be able to scan the gallery curatorial cards under select works of art with their smartphone to purchase one of Junk Foods soft vintages tees with beautifully displayed art. Using the RedLaser app, customers will scan a QR Code which will take them to a streamlined mobile landing page, where they can order these shirts that will be shipped within 48 hours.

With the purchase of each shirt, a donation in the amount of $15 will go to saving lives as part of the WE CAN BE HEROES giving campaign to provide relief to the devastating hunger crisis in the Horn of Africa.  The donation from each purchase represents 10 nutritious meals to a needy child in Ethiopia, according to We Can Be Heroes organizers.

The centerpiece of the expansive art collection in San Diego features a large-scale piece of original artwork by Jim Lee, the legendary comic artist and DC Entertainment co-publisher, featuring the profile of Batman in a color palette inspired by the hues of Africa – yellow, green, red and black.  Along with the exclusively commissioned piece from Lee, the art exhibition includes additional original art inspired by the universe of DC Comics and its iconic characters, including world-class super heroes Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, The Flash, Aquaman and Cyborg, as well as a few famous villains including Catwoman and The Joker.

DC Entertainment’s Darkness & Light: Art Inspired by Heroes & Villains, Hope & Heroism exhibition, a one-of-a-kind art and education tour to raise awareness and funds for the hunger crisis in the Horn of Africa.  This Justice League-inspired art is paired with photography from the Horn of Africa and tours as a signature initiative of We Can Be Heroes, a giving campaign designed to raise awareness and funds for the worst hunger crisis in 60 years that is taking place in the Horn of Africa, where more than 8 million people are in need of immediate assistance
